Stucco & Skip Trowel

October 21st, 2008

Yesterday they started on the first coat of the stucco. Beka stopped by early and they were just finishing up the base coat. They also started the skip trowel and ceiling textures. They finished up today with all the clean up and sanding. It looks great. I can’t wait to see the two tone paint on the texture. The paint should bring it all out. They are scheduled to start paint on Thursday. They also delivered all of the base board, interior doors, door trim, and stair railing. They are suppose to work on putting in all the base board tomorrow.

New Furniture!

October 19th, 2008

So for about as long as I have known Beka she has wanted a canopy bed. She has asked and asked and we just have never purchased one. Yesterday we were out scouting out some new appliances and furniture and she found the bed she has always wanted. Mykl and Heidi told us to visit this furniture store in Lehi where the got some couches. We ended up getting a bedroom set instead of just the bed. We have never owned a bedroom set so I think it was about time. We bought a Queen head and footboard once but we only used that for a while before upgrading to a King mattress. So our plain old mattress now has a friend. The bedroom set included the canopy bed, the dresser w/mirror, and a nightstand. We got an additional nightstand so we could both have one.

Mud & Tape – Day 1 & 2!

October 19th, 2008

They started the mudding and taping on Friday and we didn’t get a chance to see the house until late that night. So we came back on Saturday afternoon and they had done more. Our first weekend work! They did the majority of the mudding on Friday by doing the seams. Then on Saturday they did all the screw holes and clean up work. The only thing they haven’t done at all is the garage. All they have to do is mud and tape in there, no paint. I would assume that they will come back on Monday and do the skip trowel wall texture. This week on the schedule we’ve got installing interior trim and then PAINT! Outside they are still working on the stucco. Slowish week this week but a lot will change in terms of look. After this week about 10 things get done each day. It is really starting to move now. If you don’t know when this is all going to be done, take a gander on the right side and you will see a countdown.

Drywall Day 2!

October 15th, 2008

All of the drywall is up and ready for mud and tape. They finished hanging all of the drywall upstairs and also put on all the rounded corners. They trimmed it all up and made it look nice. Amazing how it’s starting to look like a real house now. If we can just get the interest rates to come down, everything will be good. On the outside of the house they finished all the prep work for the stucco. Hopefully they will start the stucco tomorrow while it is warm. Nobody likes jacked up, discolored stucco.

Drywall Day 1!

October 14th, 2008

They started the drywall today. They got the majority of the downstairs done and about a third of the upstairs. They were there until at least 7pm or so. They were doing some weird stuff that I have never seen with drywall. Not sure if you can see it in some of the pictures, but they were leaving doors, and windows covered. I watched the guys do my basement of our old house and they did nothing like this. Obviously they get to fix any holes, or weirdness, but I just found it strange. I’m sure it will look different tomorrow. They also covered the house in black paper and chicken wire prepping it for the stucco. Some of the Soffit and Fascia got done today as well.

More Prep Work!

October 14th, 2008

Yesterday they put up the rest of the scaffolding and stocked the house for drywall. Now I have seen some drywall before, but there is a crap load of it in the house right now. And some HUGE pieces. I didn’t know they made it that big. Hopefully they will get started on that today. They still haven’t put up the Soffit and Fascia but I’m sure they won’t forget it. Not really something I worry too much about. This week they are suppose to install all of the drywall, mud, and tape. And also start stuccoing the house. The dates on the stucco are 10/14-10/29. So looks to go on for several weeks. They are also suppose to blow the attic insulation this week as well.

Insulation & Recabling!

October 14th, 2008

These pictures are from Friday. They installed all of the insulation and a guy came to move all of my network and tv cable to the correct location. He did a really nice job of tucking the cable and made it look nice. Looks like they only insulate the outter walls of the house. Would of been nice to get all of the walls insulated, but maybe that is over kill. Would possibly cut down on noise though.

Ext. Doors, & Central Vac!

October 7th, 2008

Today we had our Framing walkthrough and told them about all the things we wanted fixed. I pled with them about moving the media panel, so we will see what they do. Might have to get ugly about it! Anyway while we were doing our walkthrough the central vac guy was there installing the lines for the central vac. Then after we left they came and installed the exterior doors. Amazing how doors can make it feel so enclosed now. Makes it feel like a house. First picture is our front door and the second picture is our back door. No more sliding glass door with a doggie door in it for us! WOOO!

Electrical, Network, Cable!

October 6th, 2008

Today they did the majority of the Electrical, Network, and Cable wiring. They are missing a couple of things that we will tell them about tomorrow during our Framing walk through tomorrow. One of the biggest problems is that they ran all of the TV cable and Network cable to the wrong location. It is all suppose to be run to the Mechanical Room upstairs. This poses a problem because I specifically ran an outlet in the Mechanical Room for my routers, switches, and Server. One of the 2×4’s in the Mechanical Room specifically says “Panel” with an arrow pointing to where it is suppose to go. Boo on them for not reading the plans again. Wish me luck on getting it corrected. So far they have been very good to fix mistakes. Let’s hope they see it my way.
