Happy B-Day to me!
Thursday, October 30th, 2008Tile Day 1!
Thursday, October 30th, 2008Today they started the tile. They were still there working on the tile and they had finished the dining room, kitchen, and hall way downstairs. Upstairs they had done the master bathroom. Tomorrow they will still have the pantry, 1/2 bath, laundry room, 2nd bathroom, and the master bathroom toliet room. It looks really good with the cabinets. I think the 20×20 sized tiles look really good as well. We won’t get to see the house again until Sunday because we are heading up North for Halloween. We are going to James and Jenni’s house to go trick or treating and then game night the following night. Wooo! Party!
Got Cabinets?
Thursday, October 30th, 2008Tuesday they came in and put down the lath for the tile. We weren’t able to get in the house, but that was all they did. Yesterday they installed our cabinets! They look so fantastic. We had decided to go with the knotted wood and we were not disappointed. We were a little nervous that we would get some random huge knot, but from what we saw yesterday, they were all good. The guy was still there at 6pm installing them so the crown molding wasn’t up yet. They also installed the cultured marble for the bathroom surrounds. Beka is glad she went with the white! That is good to hear considering she went back and forth so many times. They seems to be slightly behind with some stuff but after talking to the construction manager yesterday he didn’t seem to concerned. He says we should still be right on track. Can’t wait to see what they do today! Come on tile, and stone!
2 Tone Paint Ya’ll!
Friday, October 24th, 2008Yesterday they painted all of the baseboards, doors, and door trim. They painted all of it bright white. Then today they painted the Beige color. We didn’t get to see it during the day, but the pictures turned out fine. The paint looked great.
So yesterday we got a call from the Fieldstone Home Center. They informed us that the tile we picked was not available in the 20×20 size. We needed to choose to get a different tile all together or just go with the 13×13 size tile. We went down there tonight and were able to pick a new tile that was very similar to the tile that we had already picked out. The new tile is a little bit darker in color, and a little more brown than the last one. They were very nice to us as well. We walked in and gave us a box of chocolates from the floor company. They then took us over to a table where they had laid out about 15 different tiles, a cabinet drawer, paint sample, and carpet sample. The flooring company also told us that they were going to upgrade our carpet pad to have some moisture barrier. We found the new tile and then started to walk around the home center to remember all of the stuff that we had purchased. We couldn’t seem to find our Fridge, stove, or dishwasher. They informed us that they just upgraded all of their appliances with the new model, and since we haven’t received any of our appliances yet, we will get all of the new models. WOOO! They took good care of us in a difficult time. All in all we are satisfied with the new tile. We should be able to see it in action this week.
Doors, Trim, & Railing!
Wednesday, October 22nd, 2008Today they installed a lot of stuff. They installed ALL of the interior doors, and put the trim on all of them. They put about 90% of the base boards on as well. The thing I am most excited about is the railing. It looks better than I ever imagined. The picture doesn’t show it very well but the color is hammered bronze, with the alder hand rail. The top picture is the hand and open rail. The next picutre is the french doors to my office. The next picture is some of the interior doors. The last picture shows the base boards.
Stucco & Skip Trowel
Tuesday, October 21st, 2008Yesterday they started on the first coat of the stucco. Beka stopped by early and they were just finishing up the base coat. They also started the skip trowel and ceiling textures. They finished up today with all the clean up and sanding. It looks great. I can’t wait to see the two tone paint on the texture. The paint should bring it all out. They are scheduled to start paint on Thursday. They also delivered all of the base board, interior doors, door trim, and stair railing. They are suppose to work on putting in all the base board tomorrow.
New Furniture!
Sunday, October 19th, 2008So for about as long as I have known Beka she has wanted a canopy bed. She has asked and asked and we just have never purchased one. Yesterday we were out scouting out some new appliances and furniture and she found the bed she has always wanted. Mykl and Heidi told us to visit this furniture store in Lehi where the got some couches. We ended up getting a bedroom set instead of just the bed. We have never owned a bedroom set so I think it was about time. We bought a Queen head and footboard once but we only used that for a while before upgrading to a King mattress. So our plain old mattress now has a friend. The bedroom set included the canopy bed, the dresser w/mirror, and a nightstand. We got an additional nightstand so we could both have one.
Mud & Tape – Day 1 & 2!
Sunday, October 19th, 2008They started the mudding and taping on Friday and we didn’t get a chance to see the house until late that night. So we came back on Saturday afternoon and they had done more. Our first weekend work! They did the majority of the mudding on Friday by doing the seams. Then on Saturday they did all the screw holes and clean up work. The only thing they haven’t done at all is the garage. All they have to do is mud and tape in there, no paint. I would assume that they will come back on Monday and do the skip trowel wall texture. This week on the schedule we’ve got installing interior trim and then PAINT! Outside they are still working on the stucco. Slowish week this week but a lot will change in terms of look. After this week about 10 things get done each day. It is really starting to move now. If you don’t know when this is all going to be done, take a gander on the right side and you will see a countdown.
Drywall Day 2!
Wednesday, October 15th, 2008All of the drywall is up and ready for mud and tape. They finished hanging all of the drywall upstairs and also put on all the rounded corners. They trimmed it all up and made it look nice. Amazing how it’s starting to look like a real house now. If we can just get the interest rates to come down, everything will be good. On the outside of the house they finished all the prep work for the stucco. Hopefully they will start the stucco tomorrow while it is warm. Nobody likes jacked up, discolored stucco.
